When Chrysler wrapped up its legendary “Letter Series” in 1965, they made sure the 300L went out with style. Under the direction of former Ford Motor Company designer Elwood Engel, this final edition represented the pinnacle of Chrysler’s luxury-performance lineup. Think of it as the 1960s equivalent of today’s high-performance luxury cars, but with more chrome and character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relatively few examples of the 300L were produced, as highly equipped, full-size performance cars yielded market share to smaller, lighter intermediate-size muscle cars including the Pontiac GTO. Chrysler produced just 2,845 of these 300L models in 1965, with a mere 440 being convertibles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The heart of this machine was Chrysler’s robust 413 cubic inch “Wedge” V-8, producing a reported 360 horsepower – impressive even by today’s standards. Paired with luxury touches like bucket seats and a full-length console, it offered a unique blend of comfort and performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
