About

David C. Neyens / Motorcopia

I’m a classic and collector car historian and market analyst with 18 years of full-
time experience writing auction catalogues, sales descriptions, and editorial
market analysis for many of the world’s leading auction houses, dealers, and
private collectors.

Over that period, I’ve written thousands of catalogue descriptions across every
major market segment – from prewar classics and post-war sports cars to modern
collector and competition vehicles – often for cars where accuracy, context, and
credibility materially influence bidder confidence and sale outcomes. My work
has been used globally in live and online auctions, private sales, and institutional-
grade publications.

Before entering the collector car market full-time in early 2008, I worked in
banking and financial services, which shaped how I approach vehicles not just as
objects of passion, but as alternative assets subject to valuation risk, condition
sensitivity, timing, and execution. That background continues to inform my
writing and analysis, particularly around reserve strategy, market comparables,
and buyer behavior.

Through Motorcopia, I now focus on building structured, repeatable market-
intelligence tools – such as valuation frameworks, reserve ladders, and
buy/hold/sell overlays – that sit between raw transaction data and human
judgment. The goal is to add interpretive and decision-support layers that help
users understand why prices are where they are, and how to contextualize
individual listings within the broader market.
