Some trucks are restored. Some are customized. Very few are transformed with this level of taste, craftsmanship, and presence.
Offered as a Feature entry at Mecum Indy 2026, this striking 1957 Chevrolet Cameo Custom Pickup is set to cross the auction stage on Saturday, May 16, the climactic final day of Mecum’s massive Indianapolis sale at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
When Chevrolet introduced its all-new “Task Force” trucks for 1955, buyers were treated to something genuinely new: pickups with more style, more comfort, and a distinctly more passenger-car-inspired look and feel. None made a bolder statement than the Chevrolet Cameo Carrier. Introduced in mid-1955, the glamorous Cameo Carrier stood apart with its smooth fiberglass rear fenders, upscale brightwork, elegant two-tone presentation, and a level of styling and sophistication that instantly made conventional stepside pickups seem dated.
Short-lived but enormously influential, the Cameo helped point the way toward the future of American pickup design. Today, surviving originals are scarce. And because of their style and presence, they have long been prized as ideal foundations for premium custom builds.
This particular 1957 Cameo Custom takes that idea to an entirely different level.

The beneficiary of a high-quality restoration and custom build completed in 2002 under the prior owner in North Carolina, this Cameo was re-imagined as a true one-off, blending iconic 1950s Chevrolet design with carefully chosen modern performance, comfort, and drivability upgrades. A “one-off” custom cab extension enhances interior space, comfort, visibility, and utility, while the truck’s very well detailed presentation reflects enthusiast ownership and attentive care. Features and details are so numerous, we almost neglected to mention the remote-controlled front license plate holder, which can be lowered out of sight on the show field.

Beneath the skin is a modern custom chassis by Fatman Fabrication, incorporating fully independent C4 Corvette underpinnings, delivering a far more modern driving experience than any stock 1950s pickup could offer.

Power comes from a GM LS1 crate V-8 with electronic fuel injection, breathing through Jet-Hot-coated block-hugger headers. Additional highlights include a serpentine front-runner accessory drive, Street & Performance wiring, a 3–speed automatic transmission, and 4-wheel disc brakes.

The result is a truck that delivers far more than curb appeal. It offers the sort of usability, confidence, and modern performance that make it equally suited to the show field, the cruise night, or the open road.
Finished in a classic and attention-grabbing two-tone paint scheme of Red and White, the Cameo’s exterior is complemented by a beautifully tailored Tan leather interior featuring a suede headliner, custom center console, Vintage Air, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo, and a custom rear storage compartment with hidden audio speakers. Recently fitted and handsomely finished oak cargo-bed flooring and Billet Specialties Legacy wheels complete the truck’s visuals.

Adding to its appeal, this custom Cameo was also featured in the December 2002 issue of Classic Chevy World magazine, further underscoring the quality and significance of the build.

Rare in concept, distinctive in execution, and impossible to ignore, this one-off 1957 Chevrolet Cameo Custom Pickup delivers the best of both worlds: iconic Tri-Five-era Chevrolet styling and thoroughly upgraded modern mechanicals. For the bidder seeking something beyond the ordinary, this 1957 Chevrolet Cameo Custom is a vehicle that can draw a crowd, spark conversation, and reward ownership every time it leaves the garage.
