Legendary Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni will travel from Italy to California’s Monterey Peninsula this August to help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Concorso Italiano. For Lamborghini fans, this is a moment you won’t want to miss!
Balboni isn’t just any driver. He started at Lamborghini in 1968 as a mechanic apprentice. Over time, Italian industrialist and company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini trusted him to test every car that came off the assembly line. Over his 40-year career, it’s said that Balboni personally drove 80 per cent of all Lamborghinis ever made. That’s no exaggeration—just ask anyone in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
He became a legend not just for his skill behind the wheel, but for his passion, charisma, and deep connection to the brand and company founder Ferruccio Lamborghini. Even after retiring in 2008, Lamborghini honored him with a special model—the Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, a rear-wheel-drive homage to his preferred driving style.
At Concorso Italiano, Balboni will walk the show field in the morning, personally reviewing the lineup of Lamborghinis and chatting with their proud owners. In the afternoon, he’ll present the coveted Valentino Balboni Award to the car that best embodies the passion and purity of the marque.
