Mercedes-AMG GT S (C190, 2015–2020) – Overview
Introduced for the 2015 model year, the Mercedes-AMG GT S sharpened the AMG GT into a more focused, performance-driven grand tourer. Powered by the handcrafted M178 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, the GT S delivered 503 HP and 480 lb-ft of peak torque-sent exclusively to the rear wheels through AMG’s SPEEDSHIFT 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Mechanical upgrades over the standard GT were extensive. The GT S added an electronically controlled limited-slip differential for improved traction, plus Race Mode and Race Start calibrations within the AMG Dynamic Select drivetrain system. The AMG Ride Control adaptive suspension further elevated agility and ride comfort, while the AMG Performance Exhaust with dynamic flaps enhanced both sound and driver engagement.
Supporting systems included a lithium-ion starter battery (in certain markets and model years), Keyless-Go convenience access, and staggered 19-inch front / 20-inch rear wheels delivering a purposeful stance and improved grip.
Looking back, the GT S positioned Mercedes-AMG squarely among elite performance GT builders, offering a compelling mix of race-bred engineering and long-distance refinement. It remains a key transitional model bridging the early AMG GT and later R and Black Series variants.

As noted by Cars & Bids in their description of a 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S sold on October 2, 2025, for $60,750 with 29 bids placed during the auction, “The Mercedes-AMG GT debuted for the 2015 model year as the second-ever model developed from the ground up by Mercedes-Benz’s AMG performance division. The Mercedes-AMG GT took the front mid-engine approach seen in the SLS AMG that came before and refined it into a smaller, more nimble, and more affordable Porsche 911 rival, complete with V-8 power and dramatic coupe styling. The GT S launched alongside the base Mercedes-AMG GT and offered higher performance and a sportier driving experience courtesy of a more powerful engine, adaptive suspension, a performance exhaust, and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.”

This Mercedes-AMG GT S appeared to be a solid, driver-quality example with 59k stated miles, if the term could ever apply to these formidable-looking and performing automobiles. The Cars & Bids online description was honest and forthright. Notable highlights included captivating Solar Beam Yellow paint, the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, the Exclusive Interior Package (Nappa leather upholstery, black Dinamica headliner, ambient lighting), Lane Tracking Package (Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Assist), 19-inch front and 20-inch rear AMG wheels, AMG carbon ceramic brakes, heated AMG Performance seats, high gloss carbon fiber trim, and a Burmester surround sound system. Choice modifications included a Black vinyl racing stripe decal, Black vinyl wrap on the front grille and roof, Black exterior badges, tinted headlights and taillights, an aftermarket carbon fiber rear wing, Ansix Auto active rear spoiler delete, and RENNtech exhaust valve module.
Noted flaws included: hail storm damage in June 2025, with the windshield replaced and paintless dent repair performed to repair the damage. Other items included cracking in the resin on the carbon fiber front splitter, some roof dents, curb rash on the passenger side rear wheel, and some wear noted on the driver’s seat side bolster. However, this example possessed considerable visual appeal, and likely, it will provide a fabulous driving experience for the new owner, nonetheless.

MARKET INSIGHT
Clean, stock GT S cars with documented histories and sub-20k miles continue to sell for low-$70,000s on BaT, while higher-mileage or modified examples drift into the low-$60,000s. Liquidity is healthy, with regular trades across BaT and Cars & Bids; sellers should price to the median and let options/miles justify price variances. The best near-term upside remains in low-mile, unmodified examples, which align with collector filters and reduce reconditioning risk. Costs (consumables, ceramics, DCT service) temper speculative bidding, but the GT S still enjoys strong cultural pull as a front-engine, hand-built V8 AMG-era piece. Overall stance: HOLD, with selective BUY for low-mileage, stock, well-documented cars at or below the median.
Motorcopia stance: HOLD — Selective BUY below median with strong documentation.
