Why We Like It:
Built by Zeal Motor Inc., the company’s signature product is the Fat Truck, a compactly packaged yet imposing all-terrain vehicle that is uniquely capable of tackling crippling mud, climbing and descending 35-degree slopes, and fording water while seating up to eight occupants in its climate-controlled cabin. Based in Cowansville in south-central Quebec, Canada, located on Lac Davignon 20 kilometres north of the U.S. border, Zeal Motor stands in the heart of Quebec’s Eastern Townships ski region, where the weather and terrain can often be formidable, creating strong demand for capable vehicles.
Essentially an all-terrain, amphibious, all-season utility vehicle with few, if any, equals, the Fat Truck is a four-wheeled juggernaut that can reach 25 MPH on land and float over and through water at 3 MPH. Offered in 4X4 and 8X8 forms with Pickup, Wagon, and articulated Hauler forms, Fat Trucks are powered by naturally aspirated and turbocharged and Caterpillar and Hatz engines, paired with pushbutton hydrostatic drive with forward and reverse, plus positive deceleration baking through a synchronous carbon fiber belt final drive. A mechanical disc parking brake is used to bring the Fat Truck to a complete halt. Four driver-selectable control modes automatically adjust the massive, ultra-low ground pressure (LGP) 640x640x610 paddle tires from 0.5 to 4.5 PSI for optimal multi-surface traction and flotation capability on the water as required.
Fat Truck features are many, with the company citing 40 available options. including a choice of custom cab colors. Useful accessories can include a roof rack, front winch, front and rear D-rings and a towing package with a rear trailer hitch. Front fender-mounted quad headlamps, plus front, side and rear LED light bars and four-corner LED beacons provide illumination. A back-up alarm heightens safety. Locking doors and four sliding side windows keep the elements out of the fully loaded cabin. Air conditioning and a cold weather package, including heater-defroster and ventilation fan, deliver all-season comfort. Joystick steering with pushbutton transmission shifting allow one-handed control from either front seat. An electronic inclinometer monitors angles, and a four-way camera system and backup camera enhances visibility. Rear-passenger jump seats fold up to accommodate up to 2,200 pounds of payload.
Market Action:
At Mecum Auctions’ recent (and massive) Kissimmee, Florida auction, a Fat Truck 2.4 Wagon, accompanied by a beefy Sure Trac trailer (see below), sold for a healthy USD $126,500. Allowing for the current currency gyrations, that amount equals approximately $184,500 Canadian.

If it’s still available, it is located in East Ferris, Ontario, east of North Bay.

Next up, this 2023 Fat Truck is located in in North Dumfries, Ontario, near Cambridge and it is also currently listed on Facebook Marketplace. The Seller is obviously a man of few words, letting the photos do the talking for the vehicle. Their asking price is CAD $145,000, roughly USD $99,593. I would assume a message, then a phone call and a direct visit will get things moving on this one, which looks to have been part of a foursome of Fat Trucks in their charge.

Currently, 12 Fat Truck sale listings have been aggregated by the folks at www.classic.com and while this is not enough action to definitively establish a truly reliable price trend at this time, a floor seems to be emerging with support at USD $80,000 or roughly CAD $116,500. Of course, condition, miles/hours of use, maintenance, configuration, features and options will fine-tune prices. These are true workhorses with inimitable styling and impressive specifications, fit for exploration, mining, remote-area transportation, ambulance/police/military applications, and public utilities. Think Mercedes-Benz Unimog in the Fat Truck’s character. We are thrilled to see this innovative Canadian company in action, much like the formative Bombardier/Ski-Doo operation in Quebec and look forward to following this growing, hard-core niche market going forward. It’s always surprising to see what you can find on Facebook Marketplace!
